Description

The Post-Graduate Programme in Infection Control prepares professionals with advanced clinical, management, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Graduates will be equipped to work autonomously and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams in public and private healthcare organizations. The programme focuses on the containment of healthcare-associated infections and the promotion of best practices in antimicrobial therapy management, enhancing the effectiveness, efficiency, quality, and safety of the healthcare system.

The course aims to enable participants to:

  • Develop advanced clinical skills to plan, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of appropriate interventions for communities and families.
  • Enhance communication skills to foster strong care relationships within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Identify health problems and implement early corrective measures using holistic and personalized approaches.
  • Understand national, regional, and local health and social care policies to align care with regulatory frameworks.
  • Promote innovative organizational models and adherence to best practices for infection risk management by integrating scientific evidence and technological advancements.

Teaching approach

The programme employs thematic units to deliver a comprehensive and interactive learning experience. It integrates theoretical lessons, workshops, seminars, and group work to develop practical and critical-thinking skills. Key topics covered include:

  • Design, manage, and assess training programmes, research projects, and innovation efforts focused on infection risk management.
  • Offer guidance and consultancy on infection risk control, grounded in the latest scientific evidence.
  • Employ communication techniques to engage users, caregivers, and staff effectively in infection risk control initiatives.
  • Apply methods and tools to guide decisions, enhance intervention quality, and integrate technological advancements and evidence-based practices.
  • Promote adherence to best practices in infection risk control and implement changes within various organizational contexts.
  • Embrace self-learning methods and stay updated on specialized knowledge and skills in infection risk management.

Internships are conducted in research institutions, universities, and IRCCS (Scientific Institutes for Research, Hospitalisation, and Healthcare). Participants will actively engage in research projects under the guidance of experienced researchers.

The final examination involves developing a research project (Project Work) on topics relevant to the programme. The research will culminate in the writing and defence of a thesis, supported by a research-experienced tutor.
