Description

The Post-Graduate Programme in Direction of Infection Control Services is designed to train professionals for the role of Director of Infection Risk Services. This highly specialized position involves managing and overseeing infection risk in healthcare and socio-health organizations, both public and private. Directors are integral to implementing a multidisciplinary approach, ensuring collaboration with various stakeholders across the healthcare system.

The course focuses on equipping participants with advanced skills in the following areas:

  • Analyse and assess infection risks in hospitals, communities, and territories, identifying critical areas and potential sources of risk.
  • Develop strategic plans for infection prevention and control, tailored to the unique needs of healthcare facilities and their respective territories.
  • Coordinate operational activities, ensuring preventive measures and control procedures are implemented effectively across departments and professions.
  • Supervise ongoing activities and evaluate outcomes to continually improve the effectiveness of infection control strategies.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and documentation, ensuring transparency and traceability of interventions and results.
  • Promote and organize continuous training activities for healthcare and socio-health professionals, fostering awareness and adherence to best practices in infection risk management.

Teaching approach

The Post-Graduate Programme in Direction of Infection Control Services is structured around the development of thematic cores. This approach integrates interactive theoretical lessons, laboratories, seminars, and group work, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience.

The programme focuses on key areas critical to the role of a Director of Infection Risk Services:

  • Assess Infection Risk Needs: utilize rigorous methodologies to identify and prioritize areas with the greatest infection risk needs.
  • Plan Interventions: design and prioritize interventions using innovative tools to address identified infection risk needs.
  • Implement, Monitor, and Evaluate: oversee the execution of planned activities, continuously monitor progress, evaluate outcomes, and prepare detailed reports to ensure accountability and transparency.
  • Communicate Effectively: develop and deliver clear, impactful communication across different levels of organizational responsibility and among stakeholders to ensure alignment and collaboration.
  • Develop Professional Networks: foster the growth and professional development of collaborators by establishing infection risk networks that adhere to the highest standards of continuous training.
  • Promote Inter-Service Collaboration: build effective professional relationships with other services to enhance prevention, control, surveillance, research, and innovation in infection risk management.
  • Activate Leadership: employ leadership styles that align with organizational responsibilities, inspiring and guiding teams towards achieving infection control objectives.



Internships are conducted in research institutions, universities, and IRCCS (Scientific Institutes for Research, Hospitalisation, and Healthcare). Participants will actively engage in research projects under the guidance of experienced researchers.

The final examination involves developing a research project (Project Work) on topics relevant to the programme. The research will culminate in the writing and defence of a thesis, supported by a research-experienced tutor.

Attendance mode

Lessons are delivered synchronously online, with occasional in-person meetings that can also be attended remotely.

75% attendance of online educational activities and 100% completion of internship hours are mandatory.

Classes are held on Thursdays and Fridays every other week, excluding summer and Christmas breaks.

Admission Requirements

Admission to the Post-Graduate Programme in Qualitative Research for Healthcare Professionals requires candidates to meet the following criteria by the application deadline:

  1. Single-Cycle Degree in Medicine and Surgery:

A degree qualifying candidate to practice as medical doctors.

  1. Master’s Degree in Nursing and Midwifery Professions:

Qualifications obtained under D.M. April 2, 2001.

  1. Master’s Degree in Technical, Rehabilitation, and Preventive Health Professions:

Advanced degrees in health-related fields that focus on technical, rehabilitation, and preventive care.

  1. Master’s Degree in Social Work, Humanistic Disciplines, and Psychology:

Accepted fields include:

  • LM-1: Cultural Anthropology and Ethnology.
  • LM-43: Methods and Techniques for Information and Communication.
  • LM-50: Planning and Management of Educational Services.
  • LM-51: Psychology.
  • LM-55: Cognitive Sciences.
  • LM-57: Adult and Continuing Education Sciences.
  • LM-64: Religious Sciences.
  • LM-78: Philosophy.
  • LM-81: Science for Cooperation and Development.
  • LM-85: Pedagogical Sciences.
  • LM-87: Social Service and Social Policies.
  • LM-88: Sociology and Social Research.
  1. Other Second-Level Degrees:

Applicants with other advanced degrees may be considered based on an evaluation by the admission committee. Eligibility is subject to documented experience in infection risk management. 

A maximum of 5 auditors is allowed. For additional information, consult the admission notice.

Programme Cost: €2,516.00, payable in two instalments:

  • First instalment: €1,516.00 upon enrolment.
  • Second instalment: €1,000.00 by June 30, 2025.

Fee for Auditors: €2,000.00 (inclusive of legally required stamp duties).
