In 2003, Prof. Sarli, at that time Associate Professor in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Parma, was appointed as the Rector’s Delegate for Continuing Medical Education. This position marked the beginning of a close collaboration with the Professional Development Department of the Parma University Hospital.
This collaboration intensified further in 2007, when Prof. Sarli was appointed Chair of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
At the same time, the direction of the Professional Development Department of the Parma University Hospital was entrusted to Dr. Giovanna Artioli, a nurse with extensive pedagogical experience, gained through various roles at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, the Reggio Emilia Hospital, and the Emilia-Romagna Region.
From the very beginning, Prof. Sarli and Dr. Artioli shared the belief that healthcare education must be interdisciplinary and interprofessional, and that the protection of individual, collective, and global health requires the contribution of numerous disciplines beyond those strictly related to healthcare.
They both believed that high-level education must be associated with the acquisition of skills in the fields of research and innovation, and that Post-Graduate programs should be co-constructed through the constant interaction between faculty members and learners, taking into account the contribution that the experience of the latter—who are all university-educated professionals—can bring to the educational pathways.
With these guiding principles in mind, the Graduate Degree they created are the result of the work of a multidisciplinary team involving various professionals, including nurses, doctors, psychologists, sociologists, professional educators, and anthropologists.
In 2023, Prof. Sarli retired, entrusting the leadership of the currently active Post-Graduate Programs to Prof. Antonio Bonacaro, Associate Professor in Nursing.
Prof. Bonacaro joined the University of Parma after a decade-long career abroad in various countries as a nurse educator and researcher, following the successful completion of the direct recruitment process endorsed by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research.
Prof. Bonacaro and Dr. Artioli are committed to continuing this decades-long journey, following the path already established, with a focus on inter-professionalism and the internationalization of the Degree.
The main goal is to maintain and enhance educational excellence while continuing to nurture a strong relationship with the extensive community of alumni and new students who choose the Post-Graduate Programs in Healthcare at the University of Parma. In fact, they are essential partners in the educational and professional improvement of health and social care.
