MARISA CANTARELLI’S NURSING MODEL: BOOK ON ITS APPLICATION PRESENTED IN PARMA

On February 20, 2025, the University of Parma hosted the presentation of the book “The Nursing Performance Model by Marisa Cantarelli in Brazil: Reflections and Implications.” The event, held in the university’s Aula Magna, celebrated the significant contribution of Marisa Cantarelli, the first Italian theorist in nursing care, whose model has recently been translated and applied in Brazil.

Marisa Cantarelli was a key figure in Italian nursing, recognized as the first theorist in the field in Italy. Her theoretical model, known as the Nursing Performance Model, revolutionized the organization of care by placing the relationship between nurse and patient at the center and clearly defining roles and responsibilities. Her vision helped enhance the nursing profession, making it more autonomous and structured.

The event was opened by Professor Antonio Bonacaro, Associate Professor of Nursing Sciences at the University of Parma, followed by institutional greetings from Stefano Bettati, Director of the Department of Medicine and Surgery. Among the key speakers, Alcindo Ferla, Associate Professor of Collective Health at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, explained the motivations behind the editorial project, while Ricardo B. Ceccim, Full Professor of Health Education at the same university, discussed the preface of the Brazilian edition. Professor Ferla emphasized the importance of the project, stating: “This book represents a bridge between Italian and Brazilian nursing practices, offering new perspectives for healthcare assistance.”

Barbara Mangiacavalli, President of the National Federation of Nursing Professions (FNOPI), highlighted in a video message the ingenuity, passion, and integrity of Marisa Cantarelli in her service to the nursing profession worldwide. “Her dedication and ingenuity have enriched the nursing profession not only in Italy but internationally,” she stated.

The event was streamed live on the University of Parma’s YouTube channel, making the presentation accessible to a wider audience. This meeting was an important opportunity to explore the value of Cantarelli’s model and its impact on the international nursing landscape, underscoring the importance of research and innovation in the nursing profession.
