Description

The Postgraduate Programme in Family and Community Nursing and Integrated Care for Public Health addresses critical epidemiological phenomena that have reshaped health needs, notably the increasing burden of chronic diseases. This shift necessitates significant reorganization within the national health service. The COVID-19 pandemic has further highlighted the indispensable role of family and community nurses in providing comprehensive, patient-centered care. Family and community nurses are pivotal in managing clinical, care, and organizational processes within communities. They collaborate closely with general practitioners and multidisciplinary teams, with a particular emphasis on chronic illnesses and disabilities.

The programme seeks to equip participants with:

  • Advanced Clinical Skills to plan, implement, and evaluate effective interventions tailored to families and communities.
  • Communication Skills for fostering robust relationships within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Holistic and Proactive Approaches to identify health issues early and provide personalized solutions.

Teaching

The programme addresses a range of essential topics:

  • Health Assessment: Evaluating the health status and needs of individuals across life stages (childhood, adolescence, adulthood, geriatrics), families, and communities.
  • Preventive Care and Health Promotion: Designing and participating in initiatives aimed at improving public health.
  • Integrated Education: Delivering informational and educational interventions to foster healthier lifestyles.
  • Service Accessibility: Enhancing navigation within the healthcare network to improve access to services.
  • Personalized Care Planning: Developing and implementing individualized care plans, supported by specialist nurses (e.g., wound care, stoma care, palliative care) and other professionals.
  • Empowerment and Engagement: Encouraging individuals and families to actively participate in their care.
  • Outcome Evaluation: Monitoring and assessing health outcomes for continuous improvement.
  • Care Continuity: Supporting seamless transitions between healthcare and social services, hospitals, communities, and residential facilities.
  • Proactive Healthcare: Achieving the objectives of innovative, proactive health initiatives.
  • Therapeutic Appropriateness: Ensuring interventions align with patient preferences and informed consent, as stipulated by Law 219/17 (on informed consent and advance directives).

Internships are conducted in research institutions, universities, and IRCCS (Scientific Institutes for Research, Hospitalisation, and Healthcare). Participants will actively engage in research projects under the guidance of experienced researchers.

The final examination involves developing a research project (Project Work) on topics relevant to the programme. The research will culminate in the writing and defence of a thesis, supported by a research-experienced tutor.
